About Us – The Story of Gonji
GONJI is a Toronto-based art and design brand built around colour, individuality and play.
The name GONJI comes from Gonjeshk, the Farsi word for sparrow, a small symbol of freedom, movement and resilience. And just like the sparrow, GONJI is always moving, experimenting and evolving.
What began with handmade jewelry has grown into a collection of wearable art, bags and objects designed to feel personal, unexpected and a little different. Colour is at the heart of everything we create. We love giving people the freedom to choose, change and make a piece their own, from customizable jewelry to versatile bags with interchangeable details and colours.
Our newest hand-woven bags are made with 100% Canadian rope and designed with removable inner pouches, allowing one bag to take on different colour combinations over time.
Most GONJI pieces are made in intentionally limited quantities. When a colour sells out, we usually move forward rather than reproduce it, introducing new colours, materials and ideas with each collection.
Our vision is to grow beyond jewelry and bags into a wider world of art, objects and design, while keeping the same playful spirit that started it all.
